first memories of the incident will last a long time.
Literal Origins: When one sees something for the
first time the impression of that first sight stays in one's mind for a long
time, even after one sees the same thing for a second, third, fourth or fifth
time.
Common Usage: This proverb is commonly known and,
when spoken, will often be shortened to, "First impressions last".
