Love is blind

PDF Print E-mail

Proverbial Meaning: True love sees beyond a person's bad points.

Literal Origins: Cupid, the god of love, was often pictured wearing a blindfold and wielding a bow and arrow, which he shot blindly at people who would, when struck by cupid's arrow, fall in love with the first person they saw.

Common Usage: This proverb is extremely well-known and often quoted when observing an unlikely couple, say a beautiful woman and a less attractive man or vice versa, thusly: "Well they do say ‘love is blind'".
